MonoSkiing

I decided I better dedicate a page on my site to my Mono-Ski buddies. These guys are some of the best people I know.

MonoPalooza is an event set up every year by Scott Gordon. Thanks Scott. At the event we get a little crazy. As you might have seen in the trailer for the WarrenMiller film “Off the Grid”, we run the wheel borrow race, etc.

The Events:

The Downhill
There's quite a bit of competition around the Monoski downhill. In 2005 we had a bad start by Lee Doobie. The light was flat, and we were racing off the granite chief—Squaw Valley. We raced down the steeps and approached the narrow bumps. The lead had been solidly established by Launchpad. The Crazy Alaskan in second, Lee was in 4th or 5th place, and trlfox was number6. As the skiers picked their line through the bumps, the launchpad lived up to his handle… Emerging left from the cloud of snow and debris, Lanchpad was mid air horizontal, rotating tip to tip down before landing. The Crazy Alaskan emerged in somewhat of a precarious position which led to a tumble on the flats below. The final order was Lee number 1, and Trlfox number 2... In 2006 it wasn’t near as exciting. Of course we had a real start. The run was green this time, we figured let's prevent some carnage. That didn’t stop us from polling off the start, 3 maybe 4 pushes… that set the leaders apart from the pack. Not far into it piste off crossed trail to take trlfox out, but passed behind. Pulling into the finish trlfox 1st, Pisteoff 2nd, Chainsaw and Erik 3rd, Gak was filming from dead center beyond the finish line. We might never know who officially finished third, but I’m telling you, “you better run scared when those Washington boys are on your tail!” Sacha was tight on our tail with the GPS. He clocked just under 50 MPH.
